The visit was led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mabafokeng Mahahabisa, and guided by the Solar Manager, Mr. Phetho Sebatana, along with Principal Engineer, Mr. Sebajoa Tau. They were also briefed on the challenges faced by the plant, the successes achieved since its inception, and ongoing preparations for the second phase of the project. Recognizing the challenges faced by some students whose parents are unable to afford basic necessities, LEGCO provided over 28 pairs of school shoes to benefit underprivileged children, along with sanitary towels to support young girls who struggle to attend school during their periods. This initiative was not just about providing essential materials; it was also about inspiring young learners by emphasizing the importance of education and encouraging them to pursue their dreams with confidence. Speaking at the event, Mr. Patlo Sekabi, on behalf of LEGCO management, highlighted the significance of corporate social responsibility in making a meaningful impact. He expressed that bringing smiles to those in need and restoring hope to the less fortunate is a vital part of the company’s mission. LEGCO Prioritizes Safety with Health and Safety Training for Staff Lesotho Electricity Generation Company (LEGCO) remains committed to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all its employees. The training was facilitated by the Institute of Development Management (IDM) and aimed at equipping employees with essential skills to handle workplace hazards effectively. LEGCO operates the solar power plant at Ramarothole in Mafeteng, which generates 30MW of electricity. The company is also responsible for the soil conservation project at the same site. Given the nature of the operations, the company recognizes the critical importance of ensuring that all staff and management are well-trained in health and safety practices. This initiative will help them respond swiftly and appropriately to any potential hazards that may arise in the workplace. On March 3, 2025, we had the honour of hosting distinguished visitors from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for an insightful tour of our facility. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our commitment to sustainable energy and technological innovation. The day began with an engaging meeting, where our engineers shared in-depth knowledge about the plant’s operations, highlighting key advancements and efficiencies in our processes. The delegation was also given an in-depth analysis by the Lesotho Electricity Generation Company engineers on how the facility functions and the importance of having a facility of this magnitude in Lesotho’s renewable energy landscape. This exchange of ideas set the stage for a deeper understanding of our renewable energy initiatives. Following the discussion, the delegation eagerly explored our photovoltaic (PV) area. Here, they observed first-hand how our solar panels harness sunlight, converting it into clean, renewable energy.
